Walt Tafe
Walt Tafe is the Director of the Burlington County Department of Military and Veterans Services. He assumed the directorship after having served as a member of the United States Air Force for over 30 years. Walt’s military career took him and his family on tours of duty around the world, culminating in his appointment as Command Chief Master Sergeant for the 305 Air Mobility Wing at McGuire Air Force Base. His numerous military decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal with six Oak Leaf Clusters, the Expeditionary Service Medal (Panama), the NATO Medal (Bosnia) and the Kosovo Campaign Medal. Walt retired from the Air Force in 2003 and worked in private industry until assuming his present duties. He received his Bachelor of Science Degree from Southern Illinois University.
Walt serves as an executive member of the Burlington County Military Affairs Committee, and is a current member of the Veteran’s Advisory Committee. Additionally, he serves as primary liaison between the numerous veterans organizations throughout Burlington County and the Board of Chosen Freeholders.
His office has primary responsibility for assisting the military and veteran members of Burlington County in preparing compensation claims and pension benefits. With an estimated 45,000 veterans residing in Burlington County his office averages over 6 million dollars in benefits each year.
Walt and his wife Kim live in the Farms section of Eastampton. He was elected to the Eastampton Township Council in 2006.
