Open Public Records Act (OPRA)

(OPRA) N.J.S.A. 47:1A-1

The State of New Jersey enacted the Open Public Records Act which allows access to records deemed to be Government Records. The definition of a government record can be found under C.47:1A-1.1 Definitions on the State of New Jersey Government Records Council website.

This document is a complete copy of P.L. 2001, c. 404, commonly known as the Open Public Records Act, as amended by P.L. 2024, c.16 (effective September 3, 2024). It is the full text of the law, specially formatted to be easily readable and to serve as a reference document for users.
